Benefits

Social Security

There are two programs under Social Security:

  • Social Security Disability Income (SSDI)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

SSDI is based on prior work under Social Security, while SSI is based on financial need. Persons ineligible for SSDI because they lack enough prior work history may be eligible for SSI. It is also possible in certain cases to be on both programs. For general information on either program, call the local office of the Social Security Administration, which can be found in the telephone book under United States Government, Social Security Administration or call Toll Free: (800) 772-1213.
