State Rehabilitation Council (SRC)

The State Rehabilitation Council is an advocacy group that seeks to increase consumer-directed and effective vocational services and to create resources and services that will result in equal employment opportunities for Vermonters with disabilities.

The formation of such a council is required of all states by the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998 and members of the Council are appointed by the Governor. Their role is to advise VR and the Governor on the performance and services of the state’s vocational rehabilitation program and assess and make recommendations regarding the effectiveness of other public and private programs serving people with disabilities.

The Council includes consumers, advocates, businesses, and providers. Among specific tasks the council does on an annual basis are; the approval of annual priorities and a work plan for promoting effective and consumer-responsive services, the recommendation and movement to action on significant policy issues, representation of constituency concerns to promote effective outcomes and services, the approval of the Annual Report to the Governor, and various work with other Disability groups.
